CITATION OF (HAJI) MUHAMMAD HANIF TAYYAB
Born on 19th November 1947, (Haji) Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, former Federal Minister belongs to prominent Memon Community. He did Masters in Islamic Studies from University of Karachi and LL. B. from Federal Urdu Law College (Now Federal Urdu University). He has played an important role in strengthening the reputed All Pakistan Memon Federation (APMF) and had been elected its President for four tenures and he is life time member of World Memon Organization (WMO) having its headquarters in United Kingdom. He was elected councilor of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation from 1983 to 1987. In General Elections of 1975, 1977 and 1985 he had been elected as Member of National Assembly from Karachi and he had been Federal Minister for;
· Labor, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis 1985 – 1986
· Petroleum and Natural Resources 1986 – 1987
· Housing Works and Environmental Affairs 1987 – 1988
During the tenure as Federal Minister he discharged his responsibilities honestly & devotedly, setup the example of austerity, transparency and never indulged in any corruption. He was the member of the committee constituted by the Minister of Religious Affairs (Maulana Abdul Sattar Khan Niazi) to prepare the recommendations for making Pakistan an Islamic Welfare State and for Ittehad Bain-ul-Muslimeen. He represented Pakistan on several international forums like ILO, HABITAT etc. He has visited many countries including United States, United Kingdom, India, Bangladesh Iraq, Syria, South Africa, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Kenya, and Holland where he delivered lectures on different topics on International Forums.
He is Founder and Chairman of Al-Mustafa Welfare Society which was founded in 1983. Services rendered by Al-Mustafa Welfare Society during Earthquake 2005, Floods in 2010, 2011 and 2012 were appreciated all over the country. All the reputable personalities like the then President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, President and Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Secretary General of United Nations Mr. Kofi Annan, Prince Karim Agha Khan visited Al-Mustafa’s Relief Camps. Al-Mustafa Education System is providing education facility to the poor and needy students all over Pakistan through its 15 schools. 3 new schools have been started last year in Karachi. According to survey of 2002 – 2003, Al-Mustafa Welfare Society has remained second largest welfare organization in view of its social services for people of Pakistan after Edhi Foundation. Al-Mustafa Welfare Society is serving thousands of people daily through;
· 40 hospitals and clinics,15 schools and orphanages, 47 mosques & madaris, 4 skill development centers and many other projects.
· Al-Mustafa Welfare Society also organizes Free Eye Surgeries Camps, Cleft Lip and Palate Surgeries Camps in remote villages of Pakistan and does all surgeries free of cost.
Haji Mohammad Hanif Tayyab is also the Chairman of Polio Scholars Committee of Rotary International who is playing vital role in Polio Eradication in Pakistan. In 2003 he had also been appointed as Member of Council of Islamic Ideology of Pakistan
and led a delegation consisting members of Council of Islamic Ideology of Pakistan to Saudi Arabia and Egypt to study their research organizations.
In recognition of his social services, University of Karachi has awarded him the honorary degree of D. Litt.
The decision of the construction of Quaid-e-Azam Museum beneath his Tomb was made in a board meeting which was chaired by (Haji) Muhammad Hanif Tayyab. This Museum was inaugurated by himself as a Federal Minister on 23rd March, 1988.
