Description

Bring Hope to Their Journey!

Hope and Healing for Children with Thalassemia

We provide free treatment to children affected by thalassemia while raising public awareness about the diseaseu2019s treatment and prevention. Our Thalassemia Centre and Blood Bank offer comprehensive care for affected children, as thalassemia treatment can be costly. Many patients come from low-income families, facing significant financial and psychological burdens.

The Challenge of Thalassemia

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that results in insufficient red blood cell production, requiring affected children to receive regular blood transfusions. In Pakistan, nearly 6,000 children are diagnosed with thalassemia major each year, with 60-70% succumbing to Hepatitis B or C before the age of 10. This condition is most prevalent in families engaged in inter-family marriages, with 90% of affected children from low-income households.

A Dedicated Solution

Since establishing our Thalassemia Unit and Blood Bank in 2008, Al-Mustafa Welfare Society has registered 200 patients who receive complete free treatment, including blood transfusions, iron chelation therapy, medications, and regular laboratory tests, all supervised by a consultant haematologist.

Long-Term Impact and Awareness

Our initiative alleviates the suffering of affected children while promoting public awareness through seminars, walks, and community events. Our Chairman, Dr. Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, engages religious scholars in this cause, advocating for pre-marriage thalassemia screening to detect the causative gene and encourage preventive measures.
